When I was a little girl, I learned how to spell my name from the Mickey Mouse Club song! My mother made it stick almost instantly – my sister and I would run around the house singing M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E! So, my mom thought, what if I swapped out Mickey Mouse and replaced with the girls’ names?
It was a hit! My sister, Cailin Leigh and I, Shayla Marie loved to hear our own names in the song! We sang it ALL the time! S-H-A-Y-L-A M-A-R-I-E C-A-I-L-I-N L-E-I-G-H!!!
Fast forward to my junior year of college – I majored in Biology and Special Education. During one of my teaching classes, my professor brought it to our attention that the most important first word a child learns is their name. I was super excited to share my song story with her and the rest of the class! She agreed that it was a wonderful tool; however, not everyone is a auditory learner for there are visual and kinesthetic learners as well!
Fast forward to becoming a mama – I got this sweet little puzzle for Gianni from @old_and_knoop ! It is the perfect little present to the little toddler in your life to begin the journey to learning how to spell their name! I believe Gianni is a visual learner, unlike his daddy (kinesthetic) and myself (auditory). Therefore, I believe he can learn the spelling of his name by seeing it and putting the letters of the puzzle in the specific spots they go. I will also incorporate the Mickey Mouse Club song because it is tradition now. However, his middle name is Christopher – womp womp. So G-I-A-N-N-I C-H-R-I-S will have to do!
How did you teach your kiddos how to spell their names?
