Spuntino – noun: snack or informal meal
Last Thursday, we had the ultimate experience enjoying some small plates and world-class international wine at Spuntino Wine Bar and Italian Tapas! We were invited to come in and sip on flights of wine while dining on expansive Italian small tapas. Katie brought her cousin Jen while Shayla invited her husband, Chris as their guests. All four of us had never experienced this kind of a meal with several sharable little meals paired with such fine wine; therefore we did not know what to expect!
From the moment we walked into the restaurant, we felt as if we were back in Italy. The Italian vibes were shining through from the décor to the brick oven to the wine racks – definitely a beautiful setting to enjoy such fresh Italian flavors and world-class wines. If you have never been to Italy and want the full experience without hopping on a plane, this is the place for you! Or if you have been (as we have), and miss the ambiance, stop in for some yummy snacks and delicious drinks.
Our evening started out with our flights of wine. Katie tried the “Taste of Spring” – which comprised of Rose, White Burgundy and Falanghina while Shayla opted for the “Pacific Coast Highway” – that included Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Red Blend. Both flights were perfect for pairing with the foods we had – from the pasta to the pizza down to the seafood! After our wine was served by the lovely Cindy, (definitely ask for her – such an excellent waiter who is extremely knowledgeable about the different foods and pairing with drinks), we started with some Truffle French Fries, a Margherita Pizza and Arancini. The fries were so dang good and definitely worked well with the risotto balls with a little pizza on the side! For being our starters, our bellies were quite pleased already.
Now for the second course, we opted for some Chicken Milanese, Spaghetti alla Carbonara and Flat Iron Steak. Katie was so excited to dive into some steak while Jen could not wait to taste the pasta! Both were pleasantly surprised to see the sharable portions and could not stop raving about how excellent their favorites were – just the way they envisioned they would taste.
We all were pretty full, but had to add a little seafood spice into the mix and more pizza – of course! Jen and Shayla wanted some Calamari while Chris could not wait to get some Spinach Pizza on his taste buds. Again, we were a happy table with full bellies, but still wanted to check out the dessert menu. Why not, right?
Finally, with one glass of wine left for each of us – we decided to dive into some desserts! Shayla and Jen ordered the Molten Chocolate Cake – and we cannot tell you enough – it is a must have! Shayla paired hers with some vanilla gelato that hit the spot with the warm delicious cake – just melting in her mouth. Chris had the House-Made Apple Crostata and the Affogato – can you tell Shayla’s hubs is a foodie too? Chris being of Italian decent was so impressed with both of his choices and ate every last bit. Katie decided to be a “plain Jane” because she was in the mood for some vanilla gelato – but she also ate all of her cold scoops off of her plate. We have officially had the Wine and Tapas experience and it was delightfully delicious to say the least! #SpuntinoFoodie
Thank you so much to the staff at Spuntino for the hospitality, excellent service and yummy food. We were blown away by the delicious tapas and desserts cooked by Chef Michel Desjardins. Chef Michel came over to our table several times to see if we were enjoying everything and having the best experience possible. We did not need to worry about anything because our waiter Cindy took wonderful care of us from start to finish, being extremely attentive and pleasantly knowledgeable.
Cheers and Buon appetito!
