Hawk Haven Winery

(the first stop on The Winemakers NJ Co-Op winery tour)

“Hawks mate for life”

On Saturday June 29th, we packed up the car to drive two hours south to the beautiful Cape May New Jersey. If you have never been there, you should definitely check it out – beautiful beaches, garden state greenery and a gorgeous winery – Hawk Haven Winery

We were invited by five different co-op wineries from The Winemakers NJ and our first stop was Hawk Haven. The grounds were beautiful, from the entrance with the rope swing to the sand pit (kid-friendly #momwin) with the Adirondack chairs to the tents with tables to sip on some delicious wine. The six of us hosted ladies were in awe of the whole experience. Celine – our tour guide for the day was extremely knowledgeable, passionate about wine and charmingly witty. She explained everything about the winery from the history to the grapes to wide variety of wine.

A little history about Hawk Haven

Hawks mate for life – The winery opened August of 2006 with the tasting room opening May of 2008. They started small and today grew to have fourteen acres of vines with sixteen different varietals. The whole process (harvesting, pressing, fermenting, aging, blending and bottling/canning) is done on site! Celine explained that the wine label was created to not only represent the winery’s namesake, but also the yin and yang of Todd and Kenna’s relationship!

Hawk Haven joined The Winemaker’s Co-Op in the fall of 2018. The organization has been created to promote the fine wine movement in NJ and their goal is to emphasize and inspire premium NJ wine production. We are excited to have the opportunity to tour the rest of wineries affiliated with The Winemaker’s Co-Op over the next few months especially after such an awesome experience here at Hawk Haven

The ladies and I enjoyed hearing about the history from Celine, touring the vineyard, viewing the fermentation room, checking out their new canned wine from Winemaker and owner, Todd and of course, sipping on some delicious Cape May wine. The staff at Hawk Haven were very friendly, passionate about their homegrown wine and extremely accommodating. After the tour, we sat down and enjoyed some cheeses, grapes and other snacks while sipping on some more of Hawk Haven’s finest. One of the best parts of this relaxing day was the fact that my kiddos could play in the sand pit while mama could still enjoy the experience. Kid friendly wineries are definitely a plus when you do not have anyone to watch your little ones and still want to have a nice summer day – fun for everyone!

Hawk Haven has a beautiful tasting area for the hot summer months, but the ladies and I opted on sitting out under the tents to close out our three hour day. The live on-site music created such a beautiful ambiance for such a lovely, sophisticated overall experience.

Thank you so much Todd and Kenna for your hospitality with hosting us at Hawk Haven Winery. We really enjoyed Celine’s drive and she definitely won us over with her passion for your establishment and wine. We will definitely be back soon. If you are ever in Cape May New Jersey, make it a priority to stop by Hawk Haven Winery and tell them we sent ya! Cheers!
